I believe that any DataLayer must be a simple code block, that they allow operations against DB.

That code block would not have to know on the Business Entities. Single to specialize it is to execute the operations (Store Procedures and SQL Sentences) against the engine DB (SQL, Oracle, DB2, etc.), with which this setting.

Finally, I invite to you to download the DataLayer.Primitives Public Version.

This is very cool Data Layer :)

DataLayer.Primitives - Readme!
http://forums.microsoft.com/msdn/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1389

Cheers,

Javier Luna
http://guydotnetxmlwebservices.blogspot.com/

I don't think NHibernate is "ready for prime time." Although we are now using LLBLGenPro, which is very ready for prime time. We are using it for all of our persistence in our administration interfaces.

However, it is still much easier for me and my developers to do simple read-only, report-like queries for the web using datasets.

Anyway, thanks for your comments.

I need to flame you, even though I like this blog a lot! :)

With tools like Castle's ActiveRecord and ActiveRecord generator ( castleproject.org), and the ORM tool NHibernate, there shouldn't be any reason to use DataSets. Seriously!
